Peabody has an exciting opportunity for a Peer Worker on a part time, permanent basis, working 15 hours per weekbased at various London locations. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £21,548 per annum.

About the Peer Worker role:

As our Peer Worker, you willdraw on personal experiences of recovery, supporting customers who have a desire to develop their own recovery techniques. You will also support customers to develop a sense of hope, confidence, and acceptance, by sharing (but not imposing), their personal experiences.

This role will be based in the Haringey Floating Support team. The floating support team provides sessional support to people across the borough who are living with mental health problems and need housing related support. The team supports people to develop the skills and confidence they need to have a more fulfilling and independent life. The service operates with staff members who work in the locality teams at St Ann's hospital who provide brief intervention support with people and those who work in the community and provide longer term support with customers. The peer role would be working with those in the community side of the service.

What we're looking for in our Peer Worker:

  • Personal experience of mental ill health.
  • Personal experience of using a support or recovery plan.
  • Knowledge of the principles of recovery focused support.
  • Able to deal with challenging situations in a calm but assertive manner
  • Able to motivate, build rapport and share personal experience with peers
  • Able and willing to promote diversity, challenge stigma and discrimination in a non-confrontational way
  • Basic computer skills - particularly for Word and Outlook and entering information onto a database
  • Good listening skills and work well with fellow team members
  • Able to identify any signs of your own wellbeing being compromised and know how to seek support
  • Attend internal Peer Support Worker networking meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Willingness to attend and complete a peer Support Training programme

What you can expect to be doing as our Peer Worker:

  • Drawing on personal experiences of overcoming mental health problems and helping others to develop coping skills.
  • Providing emotional support, showing empathy, sharing experience, and inspiring hope in line with the recovery model.
  • Helping people to identify their strengths, personal interests, and goals.
  • Supporting people to manage risks and develop Wellness plans to manage their recovery.
  • Supporting people to understand their rights, responsibilities and choices and advocate on behalf of people where appropriate.
  • Prioritising personal safety and work within Peabody's safeguarding procedures.
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing risks in accordance with Peabody's policies.
  • Developing mutual and reciprocal relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Functioning as positive role models to peers, demonstrating the possibilities of recovery.
  • Providing practical support including attending activities or appointments and exploring new places in the community.
  • Working in 1:1 settings on a key-work basis where necessary.
  • Facilitating recovery-focused groups and activities.
  • Supporting people to develop healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Promoting opportunities for people to be involved in how their service is run and to be involved in upcoming training opportunities.
  • Working within Peabody's confidentiality policy.
  • Working flexibly in a person-centered manner reporting to your line manager.
  • Keeping relevant written records of work completed and any other administration tasks.
