Higher Level Teaching Assistant Location: Effingham, Surrey Salary: £13.38 - £14.63 per hour (£23,907.38 - £26,140.88 actual salary dependant on qualifications) Hours: 40 hours per week, Term time only Our client has opened a new bespoke new school for 11-19 year olds with Special Educational Needs, having taken the best elements of a mainstream school and the best elements of a special school to create an environment where young people can achieve their own goals and thrive - be that with GSCEs or a vocational route. Based in Effingham, they seek a HLTA to join their growing and thriving team. Key Duties: To lead in the absence of any Class Teachers across the school. Assist the Class Teacher s with carrying out the professional duties of a teacher as outline in the Professional Standards for Teachers. Know and understand the Class Teacher s curriculum planning and to plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to individual, small groups and/or classes modifying and adapting activities as necessary within agreed systems of supervision. Support the day to day running of classes across the school and take the lead in the absence of a Class teacher. Take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT. Assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment Monitor pupils conduct and behaviour throughout the learning process and intervene to resolve highly complex, difficult or very challenging issues and keep records of incidents, health and behaviour etc. as necessary. Ensure a high standard of personal care for the pupils, carefully monitoring the health and well-being of the pupils informing the care staff, medical staff and any other relevant professionals of any concerns. Responsibilities: The Higher Level Teaching Assistant Diploma or equivalent Level 4 qualification is required GCSE pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD, ADHD and ASD Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge.
